| Who we are
Manta Ray Bay Hotel & Yap Divers, Yap’s first PADI Gold
Palm Resort - has more than 20 years experience of providing full
service diving and luxury vacations in Yap, Micronesia. The resort
was founded by Bill Acker and his wife, Patricia, and was the first
dive resort facility on Yap, Micronesia back in 1986. Bill designed
and built the resort specifically for divers.
From the start, a
tradition of “treating guests like family” was born,
and that tradition and style (and the participation of Bill, Patricia,
their sons and daughters, and the more than 70 permanent staff members)
persists to this day. Yap Divers has repeatedly been recognized
as one of the top dive operators in the world.

|
| Where we are
We are located in the diving and tropical island
paradise of Yap, Micronesia, one of the diving capitals of the
world. Our dive centre and resort are located on the water in
the small town and capital of Yap, Colonia, and is completely
self-contained.
Our full service guest facility consists of 35 luxury rooms and,
attached and fully integrated into the resort, a complete dive
centre and fleet of eight dive boats (Yap Divers). Divers store
their gear right in the dive centre, and leave directly from the
dock just a few paces away from the hotel and dive centre.
|
| What you can expect
While many come to Yap primarily for the world
class diving, they leave having experienced much more. Yap is
a delicate and interesting blend of traditional and modern pacific
island culture, and has managed to preserve more of its unique
cultural heritage than most islands in the world. Attractions
such as seaside men’s houses, cultural village tours, stone
money banks, native dance performances and kayaking through the
mangroves, highlight any visit to this pristine paradise.
|
| The Dive Sites |
While
Yap first became known around the world for it’s pioneering
manta diving (and Yap
Divers is still considered not only the first operator to provide
these dives, but the best), diving visitors to Yap may enjoy more
than 50 different dive sites in addition to our Manta Hot Spots.
Our outer reefs and drop-offs have some of the clearest water in
the diving world, and visibility is often in excess of 150 ft/50
m. On the east coast you will find sloping reefs with pristine coral
gardens and fish life and in the south Yap Caverns offer a
unique swim-through.
For smaller creatures, Rainbow Reef is one
the top dive sites in the world for watching mating Mandarin Fish
and several macro dive sites offer everything from nudibranchs to
ghost pipe fish. We also offer special shark dives, where you can
get close to a number of different shark species. The dive sites
average 15 – 30 meters in depth and are in general accessible
to divers of any level. |

| The Diving |
|
| Generally, each day begins with a full briefing
of the morning 2 tank dives by our staff of multinational dive guides
(we speak more than 15 different languages). Then, divers will find
their BC’s already on our fast diving tenders, and the morning
dives begin. Our fleet of diving tenders are fast, have plenty of
sun protection, carry water, tea and snacks, and because of Yap’s
unique geography, usually only have to run for about 25 minutes to
get to any of our dive sites. After the morning two tank dive, guests
may opt for an additional 1 or 2 tank dive in the afternoon, and/or
a dusk (Mandarin Fish) dive and/or night dive.
If you want to dive like you’re on a live-aboard, you can do
it in Yap! And enjoy land based amenities you’ll find on no
liveaboard around the world. Our briefings are interactive, we encourage
visitors to tell us what they’d like to do on any dive, and
we’ll do our best to make your diving dreams come true. |
| The Education |
|
Yap Divers offer a complete range of PADI courses. We strongly
recommend divers who are not already NITROX certified to get certified
with us. NITROX is offered free for certified divers and typical
diving in Yap is very well suited for NITROX.
We also offer our own unique course, Manta Ray Awareness - a PADI
speciality course to answer all your questions about mantas. Topics
cover manta anatomy, feeding and mating behaviours, cleaning stations
and seasonal movement. A speciality unique to Yap, the ultimate
souvenir certification card signed by the manta man Bill Acker
himself. Course is a one day single lecture followed by two dives
with the mantas of Mi’l and Goofnuw Channels.
